SUMMARY:Tennessee Chapter Annual Meeting and Seedling Distribution
DESCRIPTION:The Tennessee Chapter is excited to host another annual meeting at Tennessee Tech University! Please join us to hear presentations by TACF staff\, TN-TACF board members\, and chestnut researchers on recent scientific results. \nChestnut seedlings will be distributed during the lunch break. The seedlings are American hybrids derived from more than 25 years of TN-TACF’s backcross breeding program. We will ask for a donation for each set of trees; funds that directly support the work of the Tennessee Chapter. Information on how to grow and maintain chestnut trees will be provided along with the seedlings. TN-TACF board members will be on hand to help explain our breeding program\, and to accept new membership applications ($40 per year). \nWe will end the meeting with a tour of the TN-TACF experimental chestnut orchard on the campus of Tennessee Tech. Come see chestnut breeding in action! \nTo attend\, RSVP here. \nMore Information \n \nTennessee Chapter Volunteers came together to plant advance hybrid seeds at the Mountain Homes Seed Orchard \n

SUMMARY:VA-Informational Meeting about Identifying LSAs
DESCRIPTION:American Chestnuts have not all been reduced to small bushes by the blight. There are large trees in the woods\, some of which have more resistance than others. Clint Morse and the Virginia Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation want to recruit you to bring the large surviving American Chestnuts out of the woods so that we can build to something historic: the first orchard from wild American chestnuts with elevated blight resistance in the country. With the help of The American Chestnut Foundation and with the support of Grayson Landcare\, we hope to put that orchard in Grayson County at Matthews State Forest. \nClint Morse will share details of the project and how you can help. There will be many volunteer opportunities for all ages\, skill levels\, and interests. The goal\, at the end of the meeting\, is to have a list of projects we can complete in year 1 and volunteers ready\, willing\, and able to complete these projects. For more details on the projects this group will be pursuing\, see the Grayson Landcare write-up: https://graysonlandcare.org/2026/03/chestnuts/ \nAs an added bonus\, we will also distribute American and Advanced Hybrid nuts that you can grow today\, in your backyard\, in raised bed trials we started last year. Learn More.

SUMMARY:Chestnut Chat: Ginkgo\, the Rescue of a Remarkable Tree
DESCRIPTION:Join us on Friday\, April 17\, 2026\, from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM (Eastern)\, for the next LIVE Chestnut Chat webinar. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Special guest\, Sir Peter Crane\, will explore the inspiring comeback story of the ginkgo tree. Perhaps the world’s most distinctive tree\, ginkgo is a botanical oddity and a widely recognized “living fossil.” Wild ginkgo exists only in China\, but today it is beloved for the elegance of its leaves\, prized for its edible nuts\, and revered for its longevity. It is one of the world’s most popular street trees and herbal medicines. The lecture will explore the evolutionary and cultural history of the species from its mysterious origin through its proliferation\, drastic decline\, and ultimate resurgence. Like the American chestnut\, the most recent chapters in the evolutionary and cultural biography of ginkgo have been written by people. For a species once on the brink of extinction\, what has unfolded has been a remarkable turnaround. Ginkgo is now widely grown\, widely known\, and a “good news” story\, a tree that people saved. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n HOW TO PARTICIPATE (via Zoom Webinar) \nPre-registration is required to attend this event.
