The gate attendant at SCBI must have your name prerecorded for entry onto site. Orchard location will be sent to you from Cassie. \nAdditional instructions: \nDirections: Once you are past the gate\, turn left onto Conservation Dr and then take another left onto Slate Hill Dr. Follow Slate Hill Dr until you reach a gravel road that starts to head uphill; this should lead you to a circular drive. The orchard is located downhill past the stone lookout. You should see cars and the orchard sign. If you need additional instructions\, see the attached map or ask the gate attendant. \n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				Bring: thick work gloves (the burs are VERY spiky!) and some bug spray. SUMMARY:VA - Planting at Lesesne State Forest
DESCRIPTION:The VA Department of Forestry and VATACF will be planting 300 bareroot seedlings at Lesesne State Forest on Monday\, April 15th. Planting will begin at 10 am and last until we are finished (likely 4-6 hours depending on how many folks come out). Please come out and help us plant these trees in our effort to restore the American chestnut! \nPlease note that the terrain we are planting on has a lot of brush and debris\, it is not easy to get around. If you have movement issues I recommend selecting another of our volunteer events. Bring water\, lunch/snacks\, bug spray or sunscreen if needed\, and gardening gloves. There is a metal gate\, to enter the orchard/planting area\, drive through the gate and take the first right. This will take you to a shed where you can park.

DESCRIPTION:RSVP\n			\n			\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				\n				MDTACF is planting almost 900 chestnut seeds as part of a common garden experiment at the University of Maryland’s Western Maryland Research and Education Center (WMREC) in Keedysville\, MD. 18330 Keedysville Rd\, Keedysville\, MD. Note: address will take you to office\, we will put up signs to get to the orchard. \nWe will be planting seed from throughout the range from our best performing trees in order to test their blight resistance and inform our future breeding decisions. As this is part of a “common garden” study\, this is one of four sites in which these crosses are being planted. \nPlease come out and help us plant to restore this tree! \nThis will be an all-day activity starting at 9 am. Bring water\, snacks\, sunscreen\, bug spray and dress for the weather! SUMMARY:VA - Planting at Cumberland State Forest
DESCRIPTION:Come help plant 200 potentially root rot -esistant seeds at Cumberland State Forest! These trees will be monitored for root rot susceptibility and resistant trees will be incorporated into our breeding program. Planting will take place on April 2nd at 751 Oak Hill Rd\, Cumberland\, VA 23040. Note: this is an old house and we will be planting behind the house in a big field. \nWe plan to start around 10:30 am and will finish once all the seeds are planted- this should take 4 or more hours. Tasks will include making and applying deer shelters\, planting seeds\, mixing potting soil\, and labeling planting spaces.
