SUMMARY:PA- Prepping of Test Planting at Penn Nursery
DESCRIPTION:Do you like to dig holes? We will be digging about 800 of them for an advanced research field trial of all different types of chestnuts on the state nursery grounds on Friday\, October 18 from 0900 until finished. This will be a field trial to complement a detailed greenhouse replicate tested by early assay methods for blight resistance. We’ll learn alot about how different types of chestnuts respond to the blight and the effectiveness of early assay methods in predicting field success. SUMMARY:PA- Research Planting at Penn Nursery
DESCRIPTION:We will be planting an advanced research plot of about 800 chestnut trees in a field resistance trial to evaluate all types of chestnut trees from throughout the breeding program on the same site. This is an important field replicate of a detailed greenhouse inoculation trial meant to test both the trees and early assay methods of resistance and will help us improve our ability to screen chestnuts for blight resistance. We’ve got a lot of trees so we need your help!
