Pennsylvania / New Jersey

Thanks to the continued growth of our Spring Growers Meeting, we will be hosting the meeting at a new venue this year, The Ned Smith Center for Nature and Art in Millersburg, PA on Saturday March 29, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. We think you will all really enjoy the setting and facilities at this venue. You can learn more about the center at www.nedsmithcenter.org

We’ll have something a little bit different this year, with 2 sessions devoted to learning more about what is going on in the PA Chapter as well as the wider TACF community. You asked and we listened! We’ll also have a speaker from Ned Smith and one from the local PA forestry industry. A little more about who we’ll hear from:

Matt Brinckman, TACF Mid-Atlantic Regional Science Coordinator, will be sharing updates and insights from their recent work in Virginia and other parts of our neighboring Mid-Atlantic region. Matt holds both BS and MS degrees in Forest Management from Virginia Tech and joined TACF in 2012.

Keith Atherholt, President of Lewis Lumber in Picture Rocks, PA, will speak about Red Oak and other popular species native to PA, and their value in the hardwood lumber industry. Keith received a degree in Forest Products from Penn State and formed Lewis Lumber, Inc. in 1995.

Stephen Quigley, Executive Director of Ned Smith Center, will speak to us about the life and work of Ned Smith and the mission and purpose of the center dedicated to nature and art. The artwork of Ned Smith will be on display at the gallery.

Robert Lingenfelter, PA-TACF membership committee chair, will join Susan Smith and other members of the board will fill everyone in on recent board changes and inform us about opportunities for greater participation. Robert is a Landscape Architect in State College, PA.

This should be a great meeting. Come get your pure American chestnuts, learn something new and make a few new friends who are passionate about the American chestnut. We can’t wait to see you there!

$10 at the door. Lunch provided. If you are planning to come, please drop me an e-mail at gro.fcattap@liam or call our office at 814-863-7192 to let me know how many will be in attendance.
