Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped to represent TACF at the 2016 PA Farm Show. The Farm Show was a great success for our Chapter raising over $1,000 and recruiting 16 new members to our organization. We sold hats, mugs, and t-shirts but the real stars of our merchandise table were the beautiful handcrafted cutting boards donated by Chris Ditlow. Chris donated a baker’s dozen and we sold every single one. Thanks Chris!

We also want to thank the DCNR Bureau of Forestry for loaning us their amazing collection of antique lantern slides depicting the Paragon Chestnut Orchard. These slides were an exciting part of our display and really helped to connect us to the 100th Anniversary of the Farm Show.

To learn more about slide collection mentioned above check out the Summer 2015 issue of Chestnut — The New Journal of The American Chestnut Foundation. In the article titled, “The Paragon Chestnut: Pedigree and History,” author William Lord tells the story of chestnut cultivation in Pennsylvania and the important place that the Paragon nut played before being wiped out by the blight.
