Bringing Back the American Chestnut

The functionally extinct American chestnut tree is making a comeback in the Virginia Piedmont. A small group of nature-minded individuals, including TACF’s Virginia Chapter president Catherine Mayes, gathered recently in the Culpeper County Sports Complex to dedicate two potentially blight-resistant hybrid versions of the hardwood tree nearly wiped out by blight in the early 1900s.
