Boy Scout Jamboree: Volunteers Still Needed

When: July 19-28, 2017
Where: Glen Jean, WV
Needed: VOLUNTEERS
SIGN UP HERE

TACF’s West Virginia Chapter is hosting a booth along the “Conservation Trail” at the site for the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Glen Jean, WV. Roughly 50,000 scouts and 10,000 volunteer leaders will fill this site July 19-28, 2017. There are about 20 government agencies and organizations that will be exhibiting along the Conservation Trail this year. This area is designed for scouts to go learn about these organizations. There are lots of other fitting exhibitors there like the United States Forest Service, National Park Service, National Resources Conservation Service, and possibly the National Wild Turkey Federation. Location is at the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve, adjacent to West Virginia’s New River Gorge National River area.

We especially need 2-3 volunteers to help with:

  • set up on Sunday 7/16
  • two booth volunteers on Monday 7/24
  • one additional booth volunteer on each of the following days: Wednesday, 7/19; Tuesday, 7/25; Wednesday, 7/26; and Thursday, 7/27.

What’s it going to be like for a volunteer?

Volunteers need to sign up soon so that their names are submitted to the Jamboree officials. Additionally, all volunteers must pass a background check, which can be done easily (and cheaply) by joining the Boy Scouts of America as a merit badge counselor. Volunteers will likely stay in Beckley in a hotel or camp nearby. A bus will pick you up early in the morning from a commuter parking lot and return to the parking area at the end of the day. You will need to pack your own food, snacks, and water. There will be a cooler available at the booth that will be stocked with ice to store food and drinks. The booths are in a wooded area.
