On Saturday, April 11, volunteers from the CT Chapter of the American Chestnut Foundation will present an illustrated program at the cabin, describing the importance and scope of the Chestnut, the blight, the wood itself, and tree restoration efforts. Visitors can either go directly to the cabin on their own (any time from 11:00 a.m. on into mid afternoon), or join the History Hike of Highland Park starting at 1:00 p.m. at the Case Parklet, GPS 670 Spring Street, Manchester.
The hike will visit the areas of the former water-bottling plant, paper mills, Case family mansions, and, of course, the 1917 cabin — a fine example of a summer lodge built from American Chestnut. Bring your friends and celebrate preservation of this unique and historic cabin. Forward this email to spread the word. Botanists welcome!
On your own, walk in, about a half mile, from either the Spring Street/Glen Road/waterfall area OR from the “Case Mt. Case Pond Lot” off Birch Mountain Road.
