Wyantenock State Forest
A previous timber harvest at this location has allowed chestnut sprouts to grow to flowering height. On this hike we will search for the flowering chestnut trees. We will also be holding an optional workshop to learn how to obtain samples to verify their pure American status as well as additional information to enter them in our database and become part of our Germplasm Committee. These flowering trees are young, but hopefully will continue to producing fertile nuts to plant in our Germplasm Conservation Orchards.
Meet at the parking area just off of Rt. 341 (just north of intersection with Rt. 202). Wear tick and/or bug protective clothing as some trees may be encountered off the trail and need some bushwacking to reach.
