Help Pot Seedlings at Monticello – June 4

June 4, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 5:00 pm

We will be potting chestnut seedlings at Monticello’s Tufton Farm on Tuesday, June 4th, starting at noon. We could use a few hands, so if you’re available come to a beautiful place and participate in a fun and rewarding activity.

The purpose:

The seedlings represent VA chapter’s advanced hybrids that will eventually be planted in one of the chapter seed orchards. We are propagating hundreds of seedlings from multiple genetic families and screening the seedlings (at Tufton Farm) for resistance prior to transplanting in the seed orchard. Controlled inoculations of the seedlings will take place later in the summer using small stem assays.

The work:

We will transplant about 1200 small seedlings into one-gallon containers and tag and record data on each seedling.

Directions:

Tufton Farm
1354 Tufton Farm
Charlottesville, VA 22902
GPS: 38.001171, -78.433125

Head down the driveway all the way to the greenhouse, park in the parking area.

That’s it. Hope to see many of you there.

Please let me know if you plan to make it.

Thanks!

Tom
