Volunteer Opportunity in Asheville, NC

February 27, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

The Carolinas-TACF Chapter is seeking volunteers to assist in a Phytophthora screening greenhouse planting on Thursday, February 27 at the USFS Resistance Screening Center in Asheville, NC (1577 Brevard Rd, 28806). Help is needed to plant 5,000 chestnut seeds for our Phytophthora screening trial this year. (Phytophthora cinnamomi is a water mold that affects thousands of species and causes dieback from root rot in American chestnut.) Please meet at the greenhouse at 9:00AM and be sure to wear layers as we will be working inside and outside throughout the day. TACF will provide pizza for lunch. The time it takes to finish will depend on how many volunteers participate, so join us on the 27th for this important work, and be part of American chestnut restoration!

Please contact Ben Jarrett, TACF regional science coordinator, to RSVP if you are interested in participating in this activity: email or 828-281-0047.
