Optimizing genomic selection for blight resistance in American chestnut backcross populations

Published October 25, 2019

Several TACF scientists and collaborators published a paper on using genomics to speed up selection of the 1% most blight-resistant backcross trees in seed orchards at the foundation’s Meadowview Research Farms. A major finding was that as we have increased American chestnut ancestry through backcrossing, blight resistance has been partially diluted. The paper discusses strategies for improving blight resistance in American chestnut restoration populations. Click here to read, download, and/or print the article.
