*** NOTE – Change in start time to 10:00 AM***
White Memorial Conservation Center has been a longtime partner with TACF and the Connecticut Agricultural Experiment Station (CAES) and has hosted many early plantings for both organizations. Dr. Arthur Graves planted the first chestnut orchard on White Memorial’s property in 1944. Come to hear a presentation of the current status of the American chestnut and TACF’s efforts to restore this iconic species. After the presentation we will walk to the nearby TACF and CAES plantings from 1995-1997 and search some of the nearby trails to hopefully find remnant American chestnut sprouts still growing in their forests. Bring plenty of drinking water and appropriate footwear.
