The Manchester Land Conservation Trust GCO was planted back in the spring, but due to lack of fencing supplies due to COVID, and a thunderstorm bringing a quick ending to our spring planting day, installation of the fencing was put off to a later time. Now that we have the supplies available, come to see how well the seedlings are growing and help us install the protective fencing so that these seedlings can survive to flowering height and provide us with the nuts of future chestnut generations. Bring work gloves and plenty of water. Meet us up at the chestnut orchard which is close to the maintenance garage at the Bush Hill Preserve, 330 Bush Hill Rd, Manchester.
We have also teamed up with the Girl Scouts of CT to have scouts transplant American chestnut seedlings at the orchard. This will help them fulfill their Girl Scout Tree Promise of planting 5 million trees across the country in 5 years to help combat climate change.
