CT-TACF Volunteer opportunity at Litchfield Hills Orchard

June 20, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm

This Thursday, June 20th  we will be inoculating the Litchfield Hills orchard with two strains of the blight fungus to determine each tree’s tolerance to chestnut blight.  We could use a few volunteers to help with the inoculation process.  The work will involve bending and kneeling to access the trunks of the trees, making a small hole in the bark, applying the fungus culture media and covering the inoculation site.  Heavy rain will postpone the event but showers or light rain will not.  Bring work gloves and clothing suitable for gardening work.  Gardening knee pads may be helpful as well.  For questions or other information contact Jack Swatt at 203-592-4686.
