All are welcome and encouraged to attend the annual meeting of the Maine Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation on Saturday, April 26 at 1:00 PM at Viles Arboretum (153 Hospital St, Augusta, ME). Chapter officers Mark McCollough and Eva Butler will give a presentation on Chestnuts Across Maine, an exciting new chapter initiative to plant chestnut trees at schools, conservation partners, and land trusts across Maine. We will have a brief election of board members for the coming year. Chestnut seeds and seedlings will be available for sale (see information about sales elsewhere in the newsletter). Afterward, we will take a field trip to Readfield, Maine (about 45 minutes away) to visit one of Maine’s largest surviving chestnut trees. Join us in a family-fun event. We look forward to seeing you. What better way to celebrate Arbor Day!!!
Here is the slate of board members for the April 26 annual meeting. All have served on the board three years or longer. We greatly appreciate their dedication to restoring the American chestnut:
- David Allen, Portland
- Eric Evans, Camden
- Albert Faust, Winterport
- Nina Pearlmutter, Kennebunkport
