On March 28, 2024 from 3:30 – 5:30, the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve is hosting a screening of The American Chestnut Foundation (TACF) award-winning documentary Clear Day Thunder: Rescuing the American Chestnut at Laudholm Farm at 342 Laudholm Farm Road in Wells, ME. They require no reservations but request a $5 donation per person.

The film runs 52 minutes and will be followed by a Q&A with Dr. Tom Klak from the University of New England in Biddeford. Dr. Klak has been deeply involved in the effort to produce a transgenic blight-resistant chestnut. If you have questions about that research, this is a great opportunity to ask an expert. This is also a great chance to learn more about TACF, our mission, and ways to get involved.

The film documents the history of the American chestnut and why so many people have worked so hard for so long to return it to the forests it once graced from Georgia to Maine. The film weaves the story of a tree, its people, and our collective vision for its restoration. You will leave even more inspired to be a part of the chestnut story.
