GA-TACF’s 2nd Annual Chestnutoberfest!

Chestnutoberfest 2025

It’s that time of year again! Chestnut harvest is just wrapping up in Georgia and our next fun event is Chestnutoberfest on October 25 at River Remedy Brewing, Rome. 1-7 pm (note the brewery’s new location). Hope you can join us to have some fun and learn about what we do and how you can get involved! We will have “Chestnutoberfest” chestnut ale, food, music by Russell Cook and Friends (of Little Country Giants), chestnut merchandise, and roasted chestnuts. Rumor has it that some chestnut seedlings may be among the “merch” being offered…

So, get crackin’ and come on out! Sign up via Eventbrite https://www.eventbrite.com/e/ga-tacfs-2nd-annual-chestnutoberfest-tickets-1763298335789?aff=oddtdtcreator

Last Friday, led by Reinhardt University's Kylie Stover and TACF's Jamie van Clief, nearly 90 hybrid chestnuts were planted at the Austin Flint orchard just north of Waleska. These chestnuts were pre-screened for Phytophthora root rot (PRR) resistance at Clemson University by Dr. Steve Jeffers and his crew. Those planted were the top performers that are expected to carry genetic resistance to this lethal chestnut disease. Here are just a few pics from the day! Volunteers included:
Hayden Stover
Charles West
Hailey Gregorich
Julia Hunt
Vinny Varsalona
Cassidy Wallace
CareyJo Titus
Mike Lloyd

Many thanks to all who helped out!
