CT Chapter Wigwam Brook Chestnut Orchard Dedication
As a member of the CT Chapter of The American Chestnut Foundation and the Litchfield Hills Audubon Society, John C. Baker spearheaded efforts to plant the Backcross Orchard at the Wigwam Brook Wildlife Sanctuary. He helped pollinate local American chestnuts with backcrossed pollen from TACF’s Meadowview Research Farm to obtain the nuts that would fill the orchard. He planned, planted and cared for the trees in this orchard from its beginning in 2010 until his passing in September of 2024. John was a dedicated board member of the CT chapter for 15 years and served as the chairman of the Nominations Committee. We will be naiming the chestnut orchard in John’s honor at a dedication Ceremony with the Litchfield Hills Audubon Society and plant a few more chestnuts to carry on the legacy that John created.
